The Gnawa play deeply hypnotic trance music, led by low-pitched, rhythmic guembri melodies, call-and-response singing, and metal castanets called qraqebs. The band, referred to as an orchestra, is composed of the 'm'allem', lead musician and master-, who plays the 'gembri', — a three-stringed bass lute-tambour-, the 'tbel', or drums, player, and 'garagb',-metallic castanets-. The music is a mixture of religious Arabic songs and African rhythms - ancient spiritual music with West African.
"A Night In Jamaa El Fna", The name of the project is inspired by a famous main Square in the red city Marrakech called jamaa El Fna is a street life known for the location of the gnaoua musicians who play live music in the street attracts travelers from around the world.
